Clairac, on n’y va pas pour des prunes !

Rendons à Clairac ce qui lui appartient ! Car c’est dans cette jolie bourgade des bords du Lot située entre Tonneins et Villeneuve-sur-Lot, au retour des croisades, que fut introduite la célèbre prune d’ente.

Avec sa belle couleur “robe de sergent” et sa chair tendre et voluptueuse, elle fait pâlir de jalousie toutes les reines-claudes de France. C’est même elle qui, après un processus de séchage perfectionné au fil des siècles, a donné le fameux pruneau d’Agen ! Mais Clairac c’est aussi une belle plage sur la rivière Lot, des ruelles médiévales typiques et des maisons à colombages hourdies de briquettes qui vous conteront l’histoire du Protestantisme en France.

A Clairac, on a toujours joué les rebelles, qu’il s’agisse de l’autorité royale ou de la Religion. Et ce n’est pas seulement par son histoire que Clairac cultive sa différence, c’est aussi l’un des seuls villages de notre territoire à être bordé par les eaux sombres du Lot. Mais qu’importe, puisque l’une des devises de la cité est Lux Clareat, « Laisse briller la lumière ».

Clairac est une place forte du protestantisme dans le Sud-Ouest, mais elle a aussi la particularité d’être sur une des variantes des chemins de Compostelle (GR®654-Est) qui relie Bergerac à Montréal-du-Gers.

Le village de Clairac dispose d’une histoire riche et unique sur la vallée du Lot avec de nombreux clairacais qui ont parcouru le monde entier. A l’exemple de Francis Foulquier, né à Londres et gouverneur de Virginie aux Etats-Unis, mais dont le père Jean-François Faulquier était originaire de Clairac. Clairac, côté plage…

Clairac n’est pas qu’une ville chargée d’histoire, c’est aussi un charmant village très prisé des lot-et-garonnais pour sa plage en période estivale. En été, les bords du Lot s’animent et la baignade est assurée du 1er juillet au 31 août. Un restaurant permet aussi de faire une pause gourmande et un camping est ouvert du 15 juin au 15 septembre, très prisé des cyclotouristes en itinérance sur le tracé de la vallée du Lot à vélo.
